Nobody Explains This When You Buy a House.
If you die with a mortgage, the bank still gets paid. The only question is whether it gets paid by your life insurance or by the sale of your family's home. Mortgage protection is life insurance sized to the loan so your family keeps the keys.
- Coverage matched to your balance and the years left on the loan
- Living benefits on many plans: access money early for a serious illness
- Return of premium options on some plans
- Indexed universal life (IUL) for families building long-term cash value

Who Gets Paid When You Are Gone.
With and without mortgage protection.
Mortgage protection is term or permanent life insurance paid to your beneficiary, not to the lender. Your family chooses how to use it.
Mortgage Protection, Plainly.
Paid to your family
Unlike the mortgage insurance a lender may require, this pays your beneficiary. They can pay off the loan, keep making payments, or use it however the family needs.
Living benefits
Many policies let you access part of the benefit early if you are diagnosed with a qualifying terminal, chronic, or critical illness. It depends on the carrier and plan, and we tell you which ones have it.
Term or permanent
Term is the cheapest way to cover a mortgage for 20 or 30 years. A permanent policy under it covers final expenses after the house is paid off. Most families do term for the loan and a small whole life for the funeral.
BRONZE
The basics covered
Term coverage matched to the mortgage balance. The cheapest way to make sure the house is paid.
SILVER
The full cost, with room
The mortgage plus a year of household income, so your family has time to breathe before any decision. Our recommendation.
GOLD
Covered, plus something left
The mortgage, income replacement, and a permanent policy underneath for final expenses after the loan is gone.
Indexed Universal Life, Without the Sales Pitch.
IUL is permanent life insurance with a cash value account. The cash value earns interest tied to a market index, such as the S&P 500, without being invested in the market directly. A 0% floor means index losses alone cannot reduce what you have been credited, while caps and participation rates limit how much you earn in a good year. Policy fees and charges still apply.
Families use IUL for lifelong coverage, to build cash value they can borrow against later, and to leave money to the next generation. It works best funded consistently for many years. If you want cheap coverage for a set period, term is the better tool and we will say so.
IUL is life insurance, not an investment in the stock market or a security. Policy loans and withdrawals reduce the cash value and death benefit and may cause the policy to lapse. The illustrated rate is a ceiling the carrier is allowed to show, not a forecast. Tax treatment depends on how the policy is designed and funded; talk with a tax professional about your situation. Guarantees are based on the claims-paying ability of the issuing carrier.
What Your Family Actually Receives.
Most agents send a policy number by text and disappear. Here is what leaves our office after your policy is approved.
- The Legacy CertificateA 3-page packet: the certificate of protection you see here, a page on why the carrier was chosen for you with your policy at a glance, and a security page. Printed, mailed, and sent to your phone.
- Your Security Code WordYou pick a word. It goes on your packet and wallet card. Anyone who calls about your policy and cannot say it is not us, so you hang up. It stops the replacement agents and the scam calls that follow every new policy.
- Legacy Safeguard Membership NO COSTA planning membership included with your coverage: tools to record your final wishes, help getting a will and power of attorney done, connections to funeral homes in your area, and survivor assistance for your family. You can share it with up to 5 people.
- One Agent, for the Life of the PolicyThe agent who writes your policy is the one who answers when you call 2 years later to change a beneficiary or add coverage. Direct line, not a call center.
How a Call With Us Goes.
1. Your why
Who picks up the pieces if something happens to you this week, and what would they face? We get that down first, in your words, because everything else is built on it.
2. The real cost
Burial or cremation, your area, your wishes. We walk the actual numbers so the coverage fits the bill instead of a guess.
3. What you have now
If you already have something, good. We write it down exactly as it is and tell you straight whether it does the job. Most of the time we add to it instead of replacing it.
4. Lock it in
Your health and budget decide which carrier and which plan. You pick Bronze, Silver, or Gold, we apply by phone, and many people hear back the same day.

Questions Worth Asking Any Agent.
Is mortgage protection different from life insurance?
It is life insurance, sized and timed to match your mortgage. Unlike the mortgage insurance a lender may require, it pays your family, not the bank.
What happens if I pay off the house early?
The policy stays in force as long as premiums are paid. Your family still receives the full benefit, and it can go toward anything.
Is IUL right for me?
It depends on your goals, budget, and timeline. IUL fits people who want lifelong coverage and can fund it for many years. Term is often the better fit if you only need protection for a set period. Ask any agent to show you both; if they only show IUL, ask why.
What is the catch with the 0% floor?
There is a cap on the upside and there are policy charges every year. A 0% index year still has fees coming out of cash value. We show you the guaranteed column of the illustration, not just the projected one.
What is the free look period?
After the policy arrives you have a window, usually 10 to 30 days depending on your state, to read it and cancel for a full refund if it is not what you were told. We walk you through the packet before that clock matters, so there are no surprises in it.
What happens if I miss a payment?
Every carrier gives a grace period, typically 30 or 31 days, before a policy lapses. We set your draft on or after the day your money lands so it does not come to that, and we call before the draft when something changes.
What is the 2-year contestability period?
For the first 2 years the carrier can review your application if a claim is filed. That is why we record your health answers exactly as you give them. An honest application is a claim that pays.
Is the $9.95 plan on TV a real policy?
That price buys 1 unit of coverage, and a unit at 70 is a few hundred dollars, not a funeral. It is sold by unit so the ad can show a low number. We quote the real face amount and the real monthly price for your age.
How fast does my family get paid?
On a level policy, a clean claim with a death certificate usually pays within days to a couple of weeks. The code word and the packet exist so your beneficiary knows exactly who to call and what to send.
Benefits, rates, and eligibility vary by carrier, state, age, and health, and all coverage is subject to underwriting.
